What Is the Assistant Handyman Job About?

The Assistant Handyman role at AFMS Group focuses on helping the Handyman with daily maintenance and repair tasks. You will support the team by doing minor repairs, checking buildings, moving equipment, and making sure facilities stay safe and in good condition.

Daily Responsibilities You Will Handle

Helping With Technical Maintenance Tasks

As an Assistant Handyman, you will assist with different types of maintenance work around the building and site. These tasks help keep everything working properly and safely.

Your duties will include:

  • Assisting with corrective, planned, and preventative maintenance
  • Helping repair walls, doors, ceilings, and other building structures
  • Assisting with carpentry and joinery work
  • Helping fix locks, handles, hinges, and door fittings
  • Supporting repairs on seating, panels, and installed fittings
  • Reporting any technical problems you notice
  • Assisting with daily building inspections
  • Making sure tools and equipment are clean, safe, and stored correctly

Non-Technical and Support Duties

  • Inspecting tiling and paved surfaces

  • Assisting with inspections of ceilings, roofs, and partitions
  • Checking that painted surfaces are still in good condition

These checks help prevent bigger problems and keep everyone safe.


Health, Safety, and Reporting

Safety is a key part of this job. You must follow the Health and Safety Act at all times. You will also be expected to:

  • Communicate repair work and issues clearly
  • Provide daily feedback to the Facilities Manager
  • Understand that your work represents both AFMS Group and the client

Minimum Requirements and Experience

To qualify for this Assistant Handyman position, you should meet the following requirements:

  • Grade 10 minimum
  • 2 to 3 years of working experience
  • Basic understanding of English or Afrikaans
  • Practical work experience
  • Ability to follow spoken and written instructions
