Minimum Requirements
To qualify for this Administration Clerk job, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Grade 10 certificate or ABET Level 4 qualification
- A valid driver’s license will be considered an advantage
- Knowledge of legislation relating to the management of human remains
- Understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulation 85 of 1993
- Basic knowledge of Supply Chain Management processes
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work responsibly and professionally
- Good problem-solving skills and creativity
- Ability to provide assistance and guidance to both internal and external stakeholders
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for various administrative and operational duties within the hospital mortuary, including:
- Capturing and updating records of the deceased in the system
- Registering all corpses in the official mortuary register
- Completing required documentation such as B1 forms for the release of bodies to next of kin
- Issuing pass-out slips to families so undertakers can collect the deceased
- Coordinating with South African Police Service (SAPS), forensic services, and pathology departments for post-mortem arrangements
- Supervising Auxiliary Specialized Officers (ASOs) and Senior Auxiliary Specialized Officers (SASOs)
- Assisting in tracing families of deceased individuals when necessary
- Liaising with hospital management regarding pauper burials
- Ensuring the mortuary environment remains clean and hygienic
- Monitoring mortuary fridge temperatures daily to maintain proper conditions
