The Department of Health and Wellness is inviting suitably qualified candidates to apply for the position of Administration Clerk: Human Resource Management (People Management – Payroll and Service Benefits). This opportunity is based at Groote Schuur Hospital in Observatory and is ideal for candidates with experience in public service people management and PERSAL administration.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria to be considered:

  • Qualification: Senior Certificate (Grade 12) or equivalent
  • Experience: Relevant experience in People Management Administration and PERSAL
  • Key Skills and Competencies:
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills
    • Computer literacy in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
    • Numeracy and basic mathematical skills
    • Good interpersonal and organisational skills
    • Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines
    • Sound knowledge of People Management prescripts within the Public Service

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for a wide range of HR administrative functions, including:

  • Providing general administrative and supervisory support within the HR office
  • Managing office correspondence, enquiries and records
  • Implementing and applying People Management policies and procedures
  • Filing and maintaining personnel records, policies, regulations and circulars
  • Handling all personnel-related enquiries, both written and verbal
  • Auditing and filing personnel data and leave records
  • Administering probation reviews on PERSAL
  • Performing full PERSAL-related administrative functions, including:
    • Appointments and service terminations
    • Transfers and salary administration
    • Leave management and injury-on-duty cases
    • Distribution of payslips
    • Debt management
