A permanent opportunity is now open for two Laboratory Assistants to join the Inorganic Chemistry team at the Scientific Services site in Vereeniging. If you have hands-on lab experience and enjoy working with water samples and chemical tests, this could be a perfect fit.
What You’ll Be Doing
As a Laboratory Assistant, your role will focus on supporting routine chemical analyses in the Inorganic Laboratory. You will be responsible for:
- Preparing and labeling samples using LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System)
- Filtering, distributing, and properly disposing of water samples
- Handling and scanning sample bottles received from the cooler room
- Cleaning laboratory glassware and maintaining a tidy workspace
- Performing basic water tests such as DO (Dissolved Oxygen) and MBAS
- Assisting with the handling of gas cylinders and chemical waste
- Supporting sampling activities across various inorganic chemical processes
- Following safety, health, environment, risk, and quality (SHERQ) protocols at all times
What You’ll Need to Qualify
Minimum Requirements:
- Grade 12 / NQF Level 4 with Mathematics and Science
- At least 2 years of experience in an analytical laboratory environment
What You Should Know
Knowledge Required:
- A basic understanding of ISO 17025 standards
- Familiarity with water sampling procedures and devices
- Awareness of general lab safety and SHERQ practices
- Ability to follow established procedures consistently
Key Skills:
- Basic computer literacy
- Clear and effective communication (written & verbal)
- Strong organizational skills and time management
- Ability to work within a LIMS-based system
