About KZN Community Work Programme
The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Cooperative Governance (KZN COGTA) leads the Community Work Programme (CWP), a government initiative to tackle poverty and unemployment. With over 30,500 participants across 29 municipalities, CWP provides a predictable income through regular work (typically two days a week or eight days a month). These 116 contract positions for 2025, spanning coordination and administrative roles, support community development in KwaZulu-Natal, promoting service delivery and innovation.
Position Purpose
The KZN CWP vacancies include 116 non-renewable 12-month contract roles (01 June 2025 – 31 May 2026) to support the implementation and coordination of CWP activities at provincial, district, and site levels. With stipends of ~R4,000–R12,000/month, these roles target unemployed South Africans, particularly youth, to enhance community engagement and governance across Pietermaritzburg, Durban, and various KZN municipalities.

Key Responsibilities (Vary by Role)
- Coordinate CWP activities at provincial, district, or site levels.
- Engage stakeholders and communities to support programme implementation.
- Manage data and administrative tasks using Microsoft Office.
- Monitor and report on project progress and community impact.
- Provide technical support for community development initiatives.
- Travel extensively within KZN for community engagement.
- Maintain accurate records of services and programme activities.

Eligibility Criteria
- South African citizen, preferably youth (18–35, inferred from youth focus).
- Grade 12 (Matric) certificate.
- Residence in KwaZulu-Natal (specific district/municipality for District/Metro Coordinators, Site Coordinators, Site Administrators).
- Valid South African ID.
- Computer literacy (Microsoft Office).
- Clear criminal record, verified via background checks.
- Availability for extensive travel within KZN.
Preferences
- Candidates from Employment Equity groups (e.g., Black youth, women, persons with disabilities).
- Diploma or bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Project Management, Finance, or related fields.
- Experience in project coordination, stakeholder engagement, or administration.
- Valid driver’s license (required for Provincial Coordinator, District/Metro Coordinators, Technical Support Coordinators).
- Strong communication skills and community sensitivity.
