Minimum Requirements

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful Library Assistant will provide administrative and operational support to the NPA’s library services.

Key responsibilities will include preparing library materials received from suppliers for exhibitions and processing the return of materials that are not selected.

The Library Assistant will also assist with ordering, procuring and processing library materials in accordance with Supply Chain Management and asset management procedures.

Other responsibilities include selecting and preparing library materials for processing, receiving processed items and linking catalogue records on the relevant system.

The successful applicant will verify that library materials have been correctly labelled according to their bibliographic information.

Library Records and Stock Management

The position also involves filing returned library materials and assisting with stock management and stocktaking activities.

The Library Assistant will help provide collection development services and search bibliographic databases for items that require cataloguing.

Items must be sorted and prioritised for cataloguing and returned materials must be assessed to determine whether they should be filed, discarded, repaired or sent for binding.

The successful candidate will also prepare lists of new materials and dispatch them for inclusion in the relevant collections.

Library records on the SLIMS system must be updated correctly, particularly information relating to the allocation of assets.

The role also includes circulating special collections and audio-visual materials issued on short-term loan.
