Key Responsibilities
The Fire Fighter will perform firefighting and emergency operations under supervision and guidance, including but not limited to:
Emergency Response Duties
- Responding to fire incidents and humanitarian emergencies
- Attending hazardous substance (Hazmat) incidents
- Conducting rescue and extrication operations
- Providing resuscitation and emergency medical care
- Operating and managing firefighting equipment and apparatus
Fire Prevention & Safety
- Conducting fire prevention inspections
- Advising on preventative and corrective safety measures
- Participating in fire safety education and training
- Ensuring compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Act
Equipment & Operational Readiness
- Checking, cleaning, testing and maintaining firefighting equipment
- Operating heavy and specialised emergency vehicles
- Performing basic maintenance on apparatus
- Ensuring all emergency vehicles are fully operational
Administrative & Compliance Duties
- Completing computerised occurrence logs
- Maintaining documentation and pro forma reports
- Participating in departmental Health and Safety Committee meetings
- Complying with prescribed maintenance schedules

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- IFSAC Accredited
- NFPA 1001 Firefighter II Certification
- Firefighter II Certification
- 2–3 years relevant firefighting experience
- Valid Code C1 driver’s licence with PrDP
- Hazmat experience and knowledge
- EMT certification
- First Aid Levels 1–3
- Basic Ambulance Attendant qualification
- Medically and physically fit
- Clear criminal record
Advantageous
- Advanced driving experience
- Firefighter instructor application experience
Core Competencies
Successful candidates should demonstrate:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Sound understanding of Hazmat guidelines
- Knowledge of fire prevention systems and fire chemistry
- Understanding of the Security Industry code of conduct
- Ability to respond efficiently to emergency situations
- Strong administration and interpersonal skills
Working Environment
This role requires shift work and may involve responding to emergency situations at any time. Firefighters must be capable of operating heavy and extra-heavy specialised vehicles and working in physically demanding environments.
The position reports within the Fidelity ADT operational structure and operates under departmental policies and the Fire Chief’s authority.
