What These Programmes Offer
Learnerships (36 Months)
The learnerships run for three years. During this time, you will attend classes and complete workplace training. Your goal is to work towards becoming a fully competent artisan in your chosen trade. These trades may include diesel mechanic, electrical, welding/plater, and more depending on the available slots.
Internships (12 Months)
The internship programme is a one-year opportunity for graduates who want hands-on experience in engineering, mining, geology, and ventilation. Interns support technical teams, assist with real projects, and gain the type of training employers look for when hiring.
Programme Overview
You can expect to learn from experienced mentors, follow set training plans, and build the kind of confidence needed to grow in a tough industry. Previous participants earned stipends in the region of R6,500 to R8,500 per month depending on the programme.
Minimum Requirements
Learnership Requirements
To be considered for the learnerships, you must meet at least one of the following academic paths:
- N2 subjects
- NCV Level 4 with seven subjects
- Grade 12 equivalent qualification
On top of that, you must have at least 40 percent in the relevant subjects and a clean behaviour and attendance record. Only applicants who can provide a Medical Certificate of Fitness will be accepted. You must also meet the Employment Equity guidelines of the company.
Compulsory Subjects (Depending on Your Trade)
- Mathematics (Not Mathematical Literacy)
- Engineering Science
- Engineering Drawing
- Relevant Trade Theory such as Diesel, Electrical, or Plater/Welder
Internship Requirements
The internships require:
- Grade 12 Certificate
- A National Diploma or Degree (NQF 6 or 7) in Mining, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, or Geology (BSc)
- No previous internship experience
- A Medical Certificate of Fitness
