About the Workshop Assistant (Instrumentation) Role
This position requires someone who can work independently and take full responsibility for daily instrumentation tasks. You will handle maintenance work on buildings, properties, recreational areas, and residential sites. You will also help prepare tools, materials, and equipment needed for the job, while following the standards set by Rand Water.

Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this vacancy, applicants must have:
- Grade 12 or N3 in Instrumentation
- Instrumentation Level 2 qualification
- Safety training is an added advantage
- A valid Code EB driver’s license
- At least 2 years of experience in the Instrumentation field
These requirements ensure that the successful candidate understands the basic principles of instrumentation work, has hands-on maintenance experience, and can safely travel between different sites.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
You will be expected to handle various tasks daily. These include:
Daily Instrumentation Work
- Perform day-to-day instrumentation activities independently
- Conduct scheduled daily, monthly, and annual instrumentation maintenance
- Investigate and repair breakdowns and work overtime when required
Site and Plant Management
- Manage your allocated section of the plant or site
- Maintain work standards and ensure legal and safety compliance
- Participate in plant improvements and modifications
- Take responsibility for instrumentation repairs and installations
- Make decisions that support plant reliability
Planning and Reporting
- Plan tasks to ensure materials, transport, tools, assistants, and equipment are ready
- Check equipment after maintenance is completed
- Complete schedules, defect reports, paperwork, and instructions
- Perform any additional tasks assigned by supervisors
