Programme Overview
  • Position Title: Learner – Freight Handling / Logistics
  • Location: Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape (with training exposure in Johannesburg, Durban, and Cape Town)
  • Duration: 12 months (Fixed-term Learnership)
  • Stipend: R4,000 per month
  • Accredited by: TETA (Transport Education and Training Authority)

This learnership offers participants an opportunity to obtain a National Certificate in Freight Handling (NQF Level 3) while gaining valuable hands-on experience in warehouse and transport operations.

Key Responsibilities and Learning Areas

As a learner, you will be introduced to all aspects of logistics and freight management. You will receive both classroom-based instruction and practical, on-the-job training under professional supervision.

Your key learning areas will include:

  • Loading and off-loading freight vehicles safely and efficiently.
  • Preparing vehicles and materials for daily routes and deliveries.
  • Handling and processing freight documentation, including receiving and dispatching records.
  • Assisting with warehouse operations such as picking, packing, sorting, and stock control.
  • Supporting drivers and logistics staff with trip planning and load management.
  • Performing general housekeeping duties to maintain clean and organized work areas.
  • Following workplace safety procedures and company policies at all times.

Minimum Requirements

To be considered for this learnership, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a South African citizen.
  • Hold Grade 12 / MatricTVET N3, or NQF Level 2 qualification.
  • Achieve at least 40% in both Mathematics and English.
  • Be between 23 and 35 years old.
  • Be medically fit and capable of performing manual tasks.
  • Have no criminal record.
  • Be willing to work weekends and shifts if required.
  • Reside in or near Port Elizabeth and surrounding areas such as Zwide, Walmer, New Brighton, or Motherwell.
Preferred Attributes and Added Advantages

While not required, candidates with the following qualities will have an advantage:

  • Computer literacy (Microsoft Word, Excel, or basic data entry).
  • Reliable transport to and from the workplace.
  • Previous experience in a warehouse, logistics, or delivery environment.
  • Strong attention to detail, punctuality, and eagerness to learn.
