Job Purpose

As an Operator – Packing / Bin Crew, you will be responsible for managing safety, quality, and operational efficiency within the packing and bin cleaning department. The role involves machine operation, production monitoring, and ensuring adherence to strict health, safety, and environmental standards.

You’ll also be responsible for coordinating bin availability, executing bin cleaning, and completing all relevant operational documentation to support production processes.

Key Responsibilities

Your day-to-day duties will include:

Production and Machine Operation
  • Set up, monitor, and operate packaging machinery to ensure efficient production flow.
  • Inspect equipment before and after use, ensuring it’s in proper working condition.
  • Monitor product quality and ensure all packing activities comply with company standards.
  • Maintain accurate production records and complete operational documents as required.
Bin Cleaning and Maintenance
  • Coordinate the availability of finished product bins and oversee bin cleaning schedules.
  • Execute daily bin cleaning plans, including safely entering bins using scaffolding or mechanical hoists.
  • Scrape, scour, and brush bin walls and hoppers using appropriate tools and equipment.
  • Fumigate bin interiors with insecticides or rodent deterrents, adhering to fumigation standards.
  • Physically lock out bins under fumigation to maintain safety compliance.
Safety and Compliance
  • Operate mechanical hoists and lifting equipment within certified capacity limits.
  • Ensure compliance with Health and Safety regulations at all times.
  • Apply Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) to maintain hygiene and safety standards.
  • Report any non-conformance, incidents, or deviations immediately to supervisors.
  • Adhere to all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and quality control measures.
Reporting and Communication
  • Complete daily and weekly activity reports accurately and on time.
  • Participate in InfoCom sessions, sharing insights and updates on operations.
  • Contribute to weekly and monthly stock counts, investigate variances, and recommend corrective actions.
Minimum Requirements

To succeed in this role, you’ll need:

  • Education: Matric or equivalent qualification.
  • Experience: Previous experience in a manufacturing or packing environment will be an advantage.
  • Skills:
    • Understanding of machinery operation and safety procedures.
    • Basic mechanical aptitude and problem-solving ability.
    • Attention to detail and commitment to quality.
    • Good communication and teamwork skills.
    • Ability to follow instructions and maintain documentation accurately.

  • Quality and accuracy of cleaning and fumigation processes.
