Minimum Educational Requirements

To qualify for the Blasting Assistant (A3) role, you must have:

  • Grade 10 / Standard 8 Certificate.
  • Blasting Assistant Certificate.

Experience Required

Applicants must also have at least:

  • 1 year of practical underground mining experience (for example, as a Pump Attendant, PTW, Belt Attendant, or Rock Breaker).
  • 6 months of practical experience as a Blasting Assistant will be an advantage.

Duties and Responsibilities

As a Blasting Assistant, your role will involve working closely with the Miner or nominee. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Face preparation before drilling and handling explosives safely.
  • Transportation and charging of explosives prior to blasting.
  • Ensuring a safe working environment and practicing good housekeeping.
  • Conducting early examinations, socket washing, and face cleaning.
  • Assisting with measurements, geological marking, and direction lines.
  • Helping with timing, blast connections, and treatment of misfires under supervision.
  • Receiving, recording, and transporting explosives according to strict safety protocols.
  • Following all operating procedures to ensure safety and compliance with mining

This role requires attention to detail, discipline, and a strong commitment to safety at all times.
