In a progressive move to empower South African youth with in-demand digital and entrepreneurial skills, Nkangala TVET College, in collaboration with Trailblazers Digital Hub and the Media, Information and Communication Technologies Sector Education and Training Authority (MICT SETA), is offering an exciting 4-month accredited skills programme. This initiative focuses on Cellphone and Laptop Repairs Technician Training combined with practical Business Management training—an ideal combination for aspiring entrepreneurs and technicians.
Bridging the Digital Divide with Practical Skills
As digital technologies continue to shape our modern lives, the demand for skilled electronics repair technicians is growing. Recognising this, Nkangala TVET College and its partners have developed a comprehensive programme that not only teaches participants to diagnose and repair smartphones and laptops but also equips them with the business acumen needed to start and run their own repair ventures.
The programme is structured to provide both theoretical and hands-on training, covering key areas such as:
- Mobile phone and laptop hardware diagnostics
- Troubleshooting software issues
- Component-level repairs
- Customer service techniques
- Basic business operations and entrepreneurship skills
This dual focus ensures that graduates can choose between employment in repair service centres or launching their own small businesses, directly contributing to South Africa’s local economy and self-employment rates.
Who Should Apply?
The programme targets unemployed youth and aspiring entrepreneurs, particularly those with a passion for technology and innovation. No prior technical experience is required, making this a great opportunity for anyone who wants to break into the tech industry. Candidates will undergo assessments to ensure commitment and aptitude.
Key eligibility criteria include:
- Applicants must be between the ages of 18 to 35
- Must have Grade 12 or Matric (or NQF Level 4)
- Interest in digital technologies or business
- South African citizenship
- Resident of Mpumalanga, eMalahleni Region
Fully Funded by MICT SETA
The programme is fully funded by MICT SETA, meaning participants will not pay any fees. In many cases, successful applicants may also receive a stipend, helping them cover transport and basic needs while they complete the programme.
This investment from MICT SETA underscores a national effort to close the digital skills gap, stimulate youth employment, and empower communities through sustainable digital entrepreneurship.
